Prisoners were not exactly given three course meals. Camp prisoners were fed three times a day. The amount they ate depended on the extent of the labor. If the labor was considered hard they received 1,700 calories, though if it was less demanding they would eat 1,300 calories. Prisoner were only allowed to have a bowl for the little sustenance they received. If the prisoners were to lose their bowl, they would not be able to eat. The captives' starvation led to organic deterioration and extreme state of exhaustion called the "Muzelman" state which later led to death.
